If you’re a fan of crafting and love the delicate beauty of origami, this Fabric Origami Flower Pouch is the perfect project for you! Inspired by traditional Japanese folding techniques, this pouch combines intricate textile folding with practical sewing to create a stunning and functional accessory. Whether you’re looking for a stylish way to store your essentials or searching for the perfect handmade gift, this origami-inspired pouch is both elegant and meaningful.

The Origins of Fabric Origami

Origami, the art of paper folding, has its roots in Japan, dating back to the 6th century when Buddhist monks introduced paper to the country. Originally, paper was expensive and primarily used for religious or ceremonial purposes. Over time, origami evolved into an art form, with intricate folds transforming simple sheets into elegant sculptures.

While paper origami remains a popular craft worldwide, textile artists have adapted this technique to fabric, creating fabric origami—a unique blend of sewing and folding. This method allows for three-dimensional floral designs, geometric patterns, and decorative textures that bring softness and movement to fabric projects. Fabric origami flowers are commonly used in quilting, fashion design, and accessories like the pouch we’re making today.

Use the hexagon form and cut 9 pieces from cotton fabric pattern 1 and 7 pieces from cotton fabric pattern 2 (dotted fabric here). Place two hexagon corners on top of each other and press the folded center with an iron, as shown in the picture.

Now fold at the hexagon corner and press as shown in the picture.

Place your index finger in the center (as shown in the picture) and pull the corner down using a needle.

Hold the corner down with your index finger, place the needle in the center, and pull the corner up.

Fix the corner at the top with a needle and press it.

Repeat these steps five more times to create the flower.

For better hold, sew as shown in the picture.
