Creating a beautiful patchwork basket is a rewarding project that combines precision, creativity, and fabric artistry. This tutorial will guide you through sewing a stunning basket using 220 fabric squares. Each block is formed by folding five squares using a unique folding technique. Let’s get started!

You will need:

220 squares 7 x 7 cm (2.75 x 2.75 inches)
Foam sheet 45 x 73 cm (17.7 x 28.7 inches), 5 mm (0.2 inches) thick
2 checkered strips 4.5 x 43 cm (1.75 x 17 inches)
2 solid-colored strips 5.5 x 43 cm (2.16 x 17 inches)
Lining 43 x 63 cm (17 x 24.8 inches)

Begin by cutting 220 fabric squares. Each square should be the same size to ensure uniformity. You can use a mix of colors and prints to give your basket a vibrant, patchwork look.

For this technique, five squares are folded together to create one structured block.

Once all blocks are prepared, start sewing them together in rows. 6 rws with 6 blocks and 2 rows with 4 blocks. Arrange them in a design that you like, ensuring the patterns are evenly distributed. Sew the blocks together with a straight stitch, joining row by row.

For a better hold, iron all rows.

Once the blocks are sewn into rows, attach them one row at a time onto a foam board. Sew each row securely onto the foam to provide structure and stability.

Two strips are sewn together and one on each side.

Cut off the excess foam.

Donec ut semper quam sed mollis purus. Integer ins ultricies arcu. Phasellus fringilla quam pellentesque lacinia dapibus.

Sew the side panels together to form the basket’s body.

Close the bottom corners to create a sturdy base.

Insert the fabric lining inside the basket and secure it with stitching.

To complete the basket, sew a decorative topstitch along the upper edge. This not only enhances the look but also strengthens the structure.
